On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Steve Rattner, who served as counselor to the Treasury Secretary in the Obama administration, stated that there is a bit of “schizophrenia” in our energy policy where “We’ve been discouraging oil companies from maintaining refineries or opening new ones. Because we theoretically are going to transition away from gasoline.” But the problem is, there was a “misjudgment as to how long of a transition it was going to be and what we needed to do to make the transition work.” Rattner stated that “refining capacity has gone down” due to refineries shutting down since the pandemic, but “the rest of the ones that are left are running at full capacity.” And “As much as can be refined is being refined.” He later added, “The problem is that, of the five [refineries that have shut down], one had a fire, one had some kind of explosion. You cannot simply — these are not simply things you can turn on like a car. It takes months, it costs tens or … [Read more...] about Fmr. Fmr. Obama Treasury Counselor Rattner: Biden’s Gas Tax Holiday, Criticism of Refiners, and Floating DPA Are Off-Base
On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Steve Rattner, who served as counselor to the Treasury Secretary in the Obama administration, said that if you gave people at the White House truth serum, “I’m not sure how excited they would be” about a three-month gas tax holiday and that President Joe Biden’s criticism of refiners and suggesting invoking the Defense Production Act are off-base because current oil refineries “are running at full capacity.” Rattner stated, “I’m having a hard time finding anybody who’s excited — as excited as the White House is about this gas tax holiday.” And “Deep down, if you gave them truth serum, I’m not sure how excited they would be.” He added, “The average adult American will save $23.85 over a three-month gas holiday.” Rattner further pushed back against Biden’s criticism of refiners for not refining enough by saying that “refining capacity has gone down” due to refineries shutting down since the pandemic, but “the rest of the ones that … [Read more...] about Fmr. Jim Jordan: January 6 ‘All About Getting at President Trump’
Thursday on FNC’s “Fox News @ Night,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) reacted to the day’s findings of the January 6 House Select Committee. Jordan insisted he had not asked former President Donald Trump for a pardon and said the actual objective was to get at the former president. Partial transcript as follows: I don’t think that Nancy Pelosi was ever going to allow any Republicans who were going to do the kind of cross-examination that needs to be done. So, if Leader McCarthy says, OK, she said no to two of our members, I’m going to, I’m going to appoint. She’d have found a reason to always object to someone because this is the outcome she wants. I think the outcome right now, where it’s completely partisan. One-sided, just, just a presentation not any type of cross-examination. No, no, no due process, frankly, at all in this, in this entire committee. I think that’s what she wanted because this was all about political. It’s all about getting at President Trump. So, I think … [Read more...] about Jim Jordan: January 6 ‘All About Getting at President Trump’
MSNBC’s Lithwick: Dobbs Ruling Means U.S. Split into ‘Two Countries’ — Won’t Say ‘Civil War’ but ‘Immense Bickering’
In reaction to the Supreme Court overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, MSNBC law and politics analyst Dahlia Lithwick suggested the United States would be split into “two countries” with abortion laws being sent to the states. Lithwick said on MSNBC’s “José Díaz-Balart Reports” that she did not want to refer to the split over abortion as a “civil war” but acknowledged there would be “immense, immense bickering about where states can control conduct of other states.” “You know, it’s interesting. What it’s going to mean is that there are two countries; that there are quite literally red states and blue states,” Lithwick explained. “And we’re already seeing red states making efforts to reach out into blue states and say we’re going preclude you from performing abortions, either by shuttering your clinics, trying to bankrupt your clinic. We’re already seeing fights going on about red states that are going to want to make it impossible for people to travel interstate to get this … [Read more...] about MSNBC’s Lithwick: Dobbs Ruling Means U.S. Split into ‘Two Countries’ — Won’t Say ‘Civil War’ but ‘Immense Bickering’
CNN’s Rodgers Warns Against States ‘Criminalizing’ Every Single Aspect of ‘Reproductive Rights’
On Friday, CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers reacted to the Supreme Court overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. Rodgers admitted she was “emotional” over the ruling and asked how “far” states would go to criminalize women “trying to control their reproductive rights.” She said the uncertainty of states being able to control things like apps for tracking menstrual cycles was “scary.” “Listen, it’s a heartbreaking betrayal of half of the country,” Rodgers lamented. “Sorry, I’m getting — you know, I’m watching the women there — it’s emotional. It’s a real problem. People are talking about privacy issues, you know, can states who are trying to criminalize abortion not just for the women getting them but of doctors providing them, of people driving them to the clinic, are they going to be able to search your apps? You know, there’s apps that track menstrual cycles. How far are these states going to try to go in criminalizing every single aspect of women trying to control their … [Read more...] about CNN’s Rodgers Warns Against States ‘Criminalizing’ Every Single Aspect of ‘Reproductive Rights’
